On each of the kids’ birthday’s, I write them a letter to be scrap booked for later. Today’s is for Landon. You may read his second letter HERE, his third letter HERE, his fourth letter HERE, his fifth letter HERE, and his sixth letter HERE, his seventh letter HERE, and last years HERE.
Happy 9th Birthday! Amazing how the time flies, amazing how we are here again. It really is going quicker the older you get. The busier I get, the more swiftly the days move along. It’s been a fun adventure with you, and I am so proud of the young man you are becoming.
I noticed a definite maturity in you this year. Your first year of life was harder than your sister’s by far, but you mellowed out, and have become the easiest kid ever. Everyone tells us boys are easier, and while I agree for the most part, I do believe you’re just a mellow, easy going personality. You’re a positive person, and you have a sweet heart with your sister’s and wanting to help them, even when you get annoyed with them.
You played baseball for the first time this year, and loved it! You played basketball again, and you love watching football and can’t decide between a favorite, which is fine with us. 😉 You finished third grade, and totally excelled in school. I’m amazed at how well you do in it, and how you put your mind to it, and love to learn. Math and History are your favorite subjects currently, and you love to read. I think you’re following after your mom and Auntie Rachel in that way. 🙂
You’re still my little extrovert with friends this year, you’re always outside playing with them, and you even set up a few times to study the Bible with them. You love being around people, and pretty consistently wake me up (super early 😉 ) asking me a question, or get out of bed after bedtime just to talk some more. When you were younger you seemed to need some time alone now and again, but not anymore. You absolutely love camping, not just for being outdoors, but,as you said, because you get to talk to people the whole weekend. 🙂 I am so excited to see what you do with that in the future.
Something else we noticed this year, made more pronounced by your sisters, is that you are *not* a snuggler. You don’t even seem to need hugs from anyone, and you’re super embarrassed by kisses (though you still get them every day!) but you do need to talk. I think it’s the growing older, just a change in what you need, but occasionally, when you’re frustrated and don’t want to talk about it, or when you’re really tired, you’ll just come up to me and wrap you arms around me and hug me for a minute. I cherish every single one of those.
I can’t wait to see what you become someday, Landon, with all these amazing qualities you have. Yet, at the same time, I wish you’d stop growing. You are getting so tall (to my collarbone!) and we have a running bet between you and I that you’ll be almost my height by your next birthday. I can’t wait to see how you grow and mature, and how you grow in the Lord next year. I can’t wait to see all the subtle changes, and the amazement I feel when I look at the picture from the year before and see how you’ve grown. You’re awesome Landon, and I love you so much. I hope you feel very special today, because you are.
Lots of love,
